Dogue de Bordeaux Puppies for Sale

D Dog Fan | June 9th, 2008

The latest update is that Europuppy is offering hand picked Dogue de Bordeaux puppies for sale. This is a great opportunity for you dog lovers out there to own a breed that has such historic importance.

History of the Breed

Showcased in 1863, in the first French dog show held in the Jardin d’Acclimatiation, the dogs have been used as excellent guard dogs, known for their ability to be effective, and yet not aggressive.

Commonly known as the French Mastiff, this dog has one of the largest heads in Doggy Land, which I am sure aids in it’s reputation as a guard.

Indeed, they were a sign of the wealthy in France, who employed them for this purpose. Most of them perished in the French Revolution along with their owners. This history goes back further as Hitler had demanded the execution of these dogs due to their loyalty.

Status Today

After facing facing extinction like this, the dogs have been carefully nurtured from the 1960s, by a movement headed by Raymond Triquet. Since then, the Dogue de Bordeaux has made significant inroads in America, and has been fully recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC).

Characteristics

The true Dogue de Bordeaux dogs do not have white on the head or body, and have no color other than fawn (a light yellowish Brown). They ideally have a High Stimulus Threshold which measures the amount of stimulation that is just enough to evoke a response.

This correlates with what was mentioned above about their being not overly aggressive. Their teeth are not supposed to be visible when the mouth is closed. Their hindquarters will be parallel and vertical to the ground.

But overall, the impression of the Dogue de Bordeaux is one of serious purpose. One just needs to look at the imposing stance to understand why they were the favorites of the French Nobility. Their dignity and grace are an asset to their owners. The puppies on sale are the finest from dogs that Europuppy can provide, and of course, come with a lifetime guarantee.
